Ingredients

Scale

Base and Sauce

  • 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade, enough for a 12-inch pizza)
  • 1 cup refried beans

Meat and Seasonings

  • 1/2 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper)

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Vegetables and Toppings

  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced green bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • Jalapeño slices (optional, to taste)

Garnishes

  • Sour cream (for topping)
  • Fresh cilantro leaves (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into your preferred size and thickness. Transfer it to a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone for a crispy base.
  2. Add the refried beans: Spread an even layer of refried beans over the entire pizza crust, replacing traditional tomato sauce with this creamy, flavorful base.
  3. Cook and season the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or turkey with taco seasoning until fully browned and fragrant. Drain excess fat if necessary, then evenly spread the cooked meat atop the refried beans.
  4. Top with cheese and veggies: Generously sprinkle the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese blend over the meat layer. Then add diced tomatoes, chopped onions, sliced green bell peppers, olives, and jalapeño slices if using, distributing them evenly.
  5. Bake until bubbly and golden: Place the pizza in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the crust edges turn golden brown.
  6. Garnish and serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with dollops of sour cream and fresh cilantro leaves to add a cool, herbal finish that balances the rich flavors.

Notes

  • Don’t overload the pizza with toppings to keep the crust crisp and avoid sogginess.
  • Using a pizza stone helps achieve a crispier crust through even heat distribution.
  • Season your meat well with homemade taco seasoning including chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika for deeper flavor.
  • Optional: Slightly sauté bell peppers and onions beforehand to soften them and reduce moisture content.
  • Serve Taco Pizza fresh out of the oven when the cheese is perfectly melted and bubbly for best taste.
