Ingredients

Scale

Protein

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 cup black beans, drained and rinsed

Seasoning & Spices

  • 1 tablespoon Southwestern seasoning blend (chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, oregano)
  • Olive oil for cooking

Vegetables & Fresh Ingredients

  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • Avocado slices or 1/2 cup guacamole
  • Salsa or pico de gallo, to taste

Dairy & Sauces

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Greek yogurt or sour cream (optional, about 2 tablespoons)

Wrap

  • 4 soft flour tortillas

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Slice the chicken breast into thin strips and toss them evenly with the Southwestern seasoning blend to coat thoroughly for maximum flavor.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat a splash of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken strips for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and fully cooked, flipping halfway through.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same pan, add sliced bell peppers and red onion. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened but still crisp, preserving a fresh texture.
  4. Warm the Tortillas: Heat the flour tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for about 20 seconds until pliable and easier to roll.
  5. Assemble the Wrap: Lay a warm tortilla flat. Layer shredded lettuce, cooked chicken, sautéed vegetables, black beans, shredded cheddar cheese, and a dollop of guacamole or avocado slices. Top with fresh salsa and, if desired, a spoonful of Greek yogurt or sour cream.
  6. Roll It Up: Fold in the sides of the tortilla and roll it tightly from the bottom up to secure all ingredients inside, creating a compact handheld wrap.

Notes

  • Marinate chicken for 15 minutes in seasoning before cooking to deepen flavors.
  • Do not overcook vegetables; keep them slightly crisp for freshness and texture.
  • Use warm tortillas to prevent cracking and make rolling easier.
  • Layer wetter ingredients like salsa and guacamole in the center to avoid sogginess on the outside.
  • Adjust spice levels by modifying chili powder amounts or adding jalapeños or hot sauce.
