Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (115g) butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (130g) creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup (220g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Chocolate Center

  • 24 chocolate kisses or chocolate chunks

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients and Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal. Gather all your ingredients to speed up the mixing process and ensure nothing gets missed.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, peanut butter, and brown sugar until smooth and creamy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition to incorporate fully. Stir in vanilla extract for extra depth of flavor.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking soda. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, folding gently just until combined to keep the bars tender and avoid overworking the dough.
  4. Spread the Batter and Add Chocolate: Press the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Gently press wrapped chocolate kisses or unwrapped chunks into the bars in a grid-like pattern, pushing them just slightly into the batter to ensure perfect melting centers.
  5. Bake and Cool: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15–20 minutes or until edges start to turn golden and the center is mostly set. Once out of the oven, let the bars cool completely in the pan to firm up before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • Soft Butter is Key: Soften butter at room temperature for easy creaming and a smooth texture.
  • Don’t Overmix: Fold dry ingredients carefully to keep the bars tender, not tough.
  • Use Fresh Baking Soda: Ensures proper rise and texture for chewy bars.
  • Chocolate Placement: Press pieces gently but don’t submerge fully to get gooey chocolate pockets.
  • Cool Completely: Let bars cool fully for clean slices and to let flavors meld beautifully.
