Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk, lukewarm (about 110°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Warm the milk until lukewarm, about 110°F, then sprinkle in the sugar and active dry yeast. Let sit 5 to 10 minutes until frothy and bubbly to confirm yeast activation.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and melted butter together. Once combined, pour in the activated yeast mixture to form the liquid base.
  3. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the wet ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula until dough begins to form.
  4. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky to develop gluten for soft buns.
  5. First Rise: Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the Buns: Punch down the risen dough, divide into equal portions, shape each into smooth round balls, and place evenly spaced on a parchment-lined baking tray.
  7. Second Rise: Cover shaped buns and allow to rise again for 30 to 45 minutes until puffy and nearly doubled, ensuring a tender crumb.
  8. Bake to Golden Perfection: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake buns for 15 to 18 minutes until tops are golden and buns sound hollow when tapped.
  9. Butter Brush Finish: While buns are still warm, brush tops generously with melted butter to lock in moisture and enhance buttery flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate yeast without killing it.
  • Use just enough flour to keep dough manageable and maintain softness; avoid over-flouring.
  • Knead dough until elastic but avoid overworking to keep buns tender.
  • Allow dough to rise in a warm, draft-free spot for consistent and even proofing.
  • Brush melted butter immediately after baking to seal in freshness and add shine.
