Crust Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups chocolate cookies or graham cracker crumbs
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted

Chocolate Filling

  • 6 ounces semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup evaporated milk or heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Add-ins

  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Toppings

  • Whipped cream, for serving
  • Marshmallows, for serving
  • Chocolate or caramel sauce, for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crust: Crush the chocolate cookies or graham crackers finely. Melt the butter and combine it with the crumbs until the mixture holds together when pressed. Press firmly into a pie dish to create an even crust layer, then chill to set.
  2. Make the Chocolate Filling: Melt the semi-sweet or dark chocolate with evaporated milk or heavy cream over low heat, stirring consistently until smooth and velvety.
  3. Whisk the Eggs and Sugar: In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and sugar until light and slightly thickened. Slowly incorporate the warm chocolate mixture, stirring continuously to prevent curdling and to combine everything evenly.
  4. Bake the Pie: Pour the combined filling over the chilled crust, spreading it evenly. If using, sprinkle chopped nuts on top. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for about 25-30 minutes or until the filling is set but still fudgy in the center. Allow the pie to cool completely.
  5. Add Toppings: Once cooled, add your favorite toppings such as whipped cream, marshmallows, or a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce. For extra texture and flavor, lightly toast marshmallows under the broiler.

Notes

  • Use the best quality chocolate available for a richer flavor.
  • Do not overbake to maintain a fudgy center.
  • Refrigerate the pie for several hours or overnight to let layers firm up and flavors meld.
  • Use room temperature eggs to achieve a smoother filling.
  • Press the crust evenly to avoid cracking or crumbling when slicing.
