Ingredients

Scale

Cheese

  • 8 oz firm cheese like mozzarella or cheddar, cut into bite-sized cubes or sticks

Coating

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup bread crumbs (panko recommended for extra crispiness)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, dried oregano, basil, or parsley for seasoning breadcrumbs

Frying

  • Vegetable or canola oil, enough for deep frying (about 2-3 cups)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese: Cut your cheese into bite-sized cubes or sticks. Smaller pieces melt perfectly inside without leaking out during frying.
  2. Set Up Breading Stations: Arrange three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with your chosen seasonings. This assembly line helps the coating process move smoothly.
  3. Coat the Cheese: Dredge each cheese piece in flour, dip into the eggs, then roll in the seasoned breadcrumbs until fully coated. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  4. Chill Before Frying: Place the coated cheese bites in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes to prevent cheese from melting too quickly and leaking during frying.
  5. Fry the Cheese Bites: Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the bites in batches and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve Hot and Crisp: Enjoy your Fried Cheese Bites immediately for the best crispy-cheesy experience.

Notes

  • Use cold cheese to help it hold shape better while frying.
  • Double coat with egg and breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • Maintain oil temperature around 350°F to avoid greasy or undercooked bites.
  • Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature and avoid overcrowding.
  • Drain well on paper towels or wire rack for crisper bites.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days; best eaten fresh.
  • Freeze uncooked coated bites on a baking sheet before transferring to a freezer bag to prevent sticking.
  • Reheat in a hot oven or air fryer to restore crispness; avoid microwave reheating.
