Ingredients

Scale

Proteins

  • 2 chicken breasts (about 1 lb), seasoned with salt, pepper, and ranch seasoning
  • 1 cup bacon bits (cooked and crispy)

Cheeses & Dairy

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream

Carbohydrates

  • 1 package (about 12 oz) frozen pierogis (potato or cheese)

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 3 green onions, chopped

Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning mix
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and ranch seasoning. Cook them in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked and golden brown on both sides. Once done, shred or dice the chicken for the casserole.
  2. Cook the pierogis: Boil frozen pierogis according to the package instructions until they float to the surface, then drain and set aside. This ensures they are soft and tender when baking.
  3. Make the creamy sauce: In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, bacon bits, and chopped green onions. Stir everything together until smooth and creamy for that signature crack chicken flavor.
  4. Combine ingredients: Add the cooked chicken and pierogis to the sauce mixture and gently fold until all pieces are evenly coated with cheesy goodness.
  5. Bake and serve: Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and spread it out evenly. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes, or until it’s bubbly and golden on top. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese to create a smoother sauce.
  • Don’t overcook pierogis before baking to avoid mushiness.
  • Add fresh green onions right before baking to retain color and crunch.
  • Crisp bacon separately for the best texture and sprinkle on top before serving.
  • Allow casserole to rest 5–10 minutes after baking to set and slice cleanly.
