Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup milk, warmed to 110°F
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ½ tsp salt

Filling Ingredients

  • ¾ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup melted chocolate or ¼ cup cocoa powder mixed with 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (if using cocoa powder)

Optional Toppings & Garnishes

  • Powdered sugar glaze (powdered sugar mixed with milk)
  • Chopped roasted peanuts
  • Sea salt flakes
  • Caramel drizzle

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: Warm the milk to about 110°F and mix it with active dry yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit until foamy, about 5-10 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, salt, softened eggs, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and stir until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface or mixer for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  2. Make the Filling: While the dough is rising, mix the creamy peanut butter with melted chocolate or cocoa powder combined with sugar if using. Stir until smooth and spreadable, ensuring it is thick enough to hold shape but soft enough to spread evenly.
  3. Shape the Rolls: On a floured surface, roll the dough out into a large rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Spread the peanut butter and chocolate filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Roll up tightly from one long side into a log shape. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces and place them spaced apart in a greased baking dish.
  4. Second Rise and Bake: Cover the shaped rolls with a cloth and let proof for another 30 minutes until puffy. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Optional: brush the rolls with milk or melted butter for a golden crust. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick which should come out clean or with moist crumbs.
  5. Glaze or Serve Warm: Optionally drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk or serve warm with extra peanut butter, fresh fruit, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients to help the dough rise optimally.
  • Allow yeast to fully activate and the dough to double in size for fluffy rolls.
  • Apply filling in a thin, even layer to prevent bursting during baking.
  • Brush rolls with milk or butter before baking for a shiny crust.
  • Warm leftover rolls gently to revive gooey texture.
