Lasagna Noodles
- 12 no-boil or regular lasagna noodles, cooked al dente
Beef Mixture
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Cheese Filling
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg, beaten
Sauce and Seasonings
- 2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- Additional olive oil for cooking
- Prepare the Noodles: Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay them flat on a clean towel or parchment paper to prevent sticking while you prepare the filling.
- Cook the Beef Mixture: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté diced onions and garlic until fragrant and translucent. Add the ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat. Stir in chopped fresh basil and parsley for added aroma and flavor.
- Mix the Cheese Filling: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, and the beaten egg. Mix well until smooth and creamy to help the filling hold together inside the rolls.
- Assemble the Rolls: Spread a thin layer of the beef mixture onto each cooked noodle. Spoon a generous layer of the cheese mixture over the beef. Carefully roll each noodle from one end to the other to create individual lasagna rolls.
- Bake with Sauce and Cheese: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Place the rolls seam side down in the dish. Cover with the remaining marinara sauce and sprinkle with the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
Notes
- Prevent sticking by laying cooked noodles individually on parchment paper and covering lightly to keep them from drying out while assembling.
- Use just enough filling to roll easily without tearing the noodles for neat, manageable rolls.
- Don’t skimp on marinara sauce to keep rolls moist during baking.
- Mix different cheeses like mozzarella, ricotta, and Parmesan for enhanced flavor and texture.
- Let the rolls rest for 5-10 minutes after baking to help them set and make slicing easier.
